The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1)The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Wayfarer is a wormhole tunnelling ship crewed by a mismatched group of humans and aliens. Rosemary joins the crew to improve efficiencies by sorting out the most important of jobs – paperwork. Rosemary is trying to escape her past, and her family, so is apprehensively looking forward to living with new people and travelling the universe. The alien (and human) members of the team come from a wonderfully interesting set of different cultures, physical characteristics, and social norms.

With the arching plot being a relatively simple premise, you are given more time to really care about the characters themselves. Written with a light tone and compassionate viewpoints, you feel the weight of the characters emotions, and reasons behind the making of difficult decisions.

First in a series of three, I’m looking forward to reading the next one.06
