The Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle

The Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A lovely locked-room-mystery. What is the significance of “the speckled band”? The last words spoken by the victim. What are the strange noises that occur during the night? And exactly why does an old man seem so disinterested in his daughters’ pending marriage? Even Sherlock might not come to exactly the right answer this time around.

Another of Conan Doyle’s shorter Sherlock stories. The set up is fairly intriguing and the answers prove to be quite satisfying (even with a 21st Century perspective!). A nice all-round pleasing story of death and jealousy.
