A good entry in the Sherlock Holmes compendium. I’m starting to get the hang of the writing style; whereby particular facts are pointed out here and there for ‘no reason’ – when in fact there is a very good reason – i.e. how it was done!
A mystery which takes place outside of London, in the countryside of Herefordshire. A man found dead by the side of a river, bludgeoned with a blunt instrument when there was a perfectly good gun to hand. Was it the son? With whom he had quarrelled with only a few minutes earlier? Was it revenge for an earlier transgression? Or someone else, with a more nefarious plan?
In no time at all, Holmes has the whole thing unravelled. Of course.
