My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A continuation of the Saga of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, and other characters in this world.
Ciri must be protected as she is the target of each of the factions in this war. With a focus more on the politics of war, rather than the fighting on the ground.
There are a lot of committee meetings! It’s very much a “middle” book, where a lot of the decisions made will likely have implications further down the line. But essential reading if you are following the characters in their various quests to either save or overthrow this world. The payoff will, no doubt, be in later books.
The threads of the story are quite complicated, and it’s possible I’ll need to give this entire series a re-read at another time, to make sure I’ve not missed something, or confused two characters! But as epic fantasies go, it’s an easier read than some. Tolkien, I’m looking at you!
